A Fond Farewell to Fort Pitt Casting Company

Once a proud iron foundry and casting facility in McKeesport, PA the Fort Pitt Casting Company became one of my favorite haunts in the Pittsburgh area. The site shuttered operations in the mid 1980s and slowly deteriorated. It saw a brief bit of bustle in the 90s when the city of McKeesport used the on site incinerator to burn debris from local demolition of derelict homes. Demolition began in January and due to the skeletal structure has already been completed.

In early December I took my extremely talented cousin into the playground of Fort Pitt Casting and enjoyed a wonderful intimate live performance that served as an appropriate goodbye to this site I had grown so fond of. Fortunately, I armed myself with a camera and captured the day.
